All inspectors shall have documented qualification/certification to the Level II requirements of ASNT SNT-TC-1A, 2016 Edition. Additionally, RT inspectors must have passed and have documentation of certification of IRRSP from an approved entity. Inspectors shall have passed written general theory, procedure specific and practical examinations for RT inspection piping, casting and or structure welds.. General examinations cover basic test principles relative to the applicable method. Specific examinations cover the equipment, operating procedures and test techniques that candidates may encounter in their specific assignment. Specific examination also covers the specifications, codes and acceptance criteria used in the applicable NDT procedures.
Practical examination covers inspection performance of X-ray and Gamma radiography. Additional general, specific and practical exams will be administered by Newport News to prove proficiency. Inspectors shall have passed a visual acuity exam using Jaeger 1 letters at distance of not less than 12 inches within the last year. Additional vision exams will be administered by Newport News. Supplier will provide certification documentation (for the current and preceding 3-year certification period) containing training and experience records, results of all examinations, and a record of vision tests. This documentation shall also include evidence that the Inspector has performed inspections in the applicable method(s) within the past 9 months.
These inspectors will be assigned to a shop/ship environment performing RT inspections on piping, casting, and or structural welds. There will be some climbing, crawling required. Work shift will be 0600-1430 M-F, 0500-1330 Sat –Sun, and up to 12 hours each day optional based on individual supervisor discretion. Inspectors must be able to lift 50 lbs., climb vertical ladders, crawl in tanks and confined spaces, and not be afraid of heights.
