Only individuals with pipe welding experience will be considered. Those without pipe welding experience need not apply. We are looking to hire an experienced Pipe Welder in our Canastota, NY facility. The role involves performing MIG/TIG/Stick welding and fit up jobs as necessary. You will ensure that your work area is kept in a tidy and safe condition and that health and safety guidelines are followed. This is a fab shop position.
Candidates must have the ability to work independently as directed. Please note there may be additional duties expected including but not limited to pipe cutting/beveling/welding.
Candidate must pass our weld test before they will be accepted and they must be capable of B31.1 x-ray quality welds.
This is a 40 hour per week position with additional hours as required based on needs. Normal hours are 7am to 3:30pm Monday-Friday but additional hours may be scheduled as needed to perform duties. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:Read blueprints and drawings and take or read measurements to plan layout and procedures Operate the appropriate equipment to put together mechanical structures or parts Must be able to follow all safe work practices Weld in all positions Grind or clean weld joint of work piece Fabricate new or replacement parts Change hoses, fittings, air valves, etc. On the spot thinking and trouble shooting
Responsibilities
- Using welding your knowledge on how various metals and metal alloys react to different welding processes and techniques.
- You will follow safety practices when operating tools and equipment of the trade.
- You will be welding metals using a variety of processes (e.g., stick electrode, metal inert gas shielded and tungsten inert gas shielded methods).
SKILLS AND SPECIFICATIONS:3-5 Years of welding experience (certifications obtained, if any) Substantial knowledge of SMAW/GMAW & GTAW welding processes Steel/Stainless Steel Welding and copper brazing Wrenching Fabrications with welding and layout Ability to work well with others
Qualifications
Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. Ability to do the work of a Welder without more than normal supervision performing the following types of duties: 1) Applies a variety of welding methods and equipment of one or more manual welding processes, to carry out standard welding operations to join a variety of different kinds of parts or components; 2) Perform welding operations from written or oral instructions that shows clearly what needs to be done; 3) Use various types of welding equipment to complete tasks/projects. PHYSICAL EFFORT-The work may involve standing, walking, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, and crawling. Work may be done in awkward and cramped positions such as, when welding in hard to reach places. May handle objects weighing from 20 to 50 pounds and, occasionally, objects weighing in excess of 50 pounds, in setting up work and equipment and in completing assignments. WORKING CONDITIONS- The work is done in a shop setting that is noisy, dirty, and smoky. Welding involves exposure to fumes, infrared and ultraviolet radiation, heat, flying sparks, and the glare of torches and heated materials, the possibility of eye injury, electrical shock, burns, broken bones, and the chance of cuts when working with sharp objects. The work may require wearing protective clothing, such as, gloves and flash shield or eye goggles.

- You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid NYS Drivers’ license.
- Overtime may be required on an as needed basis.
- The employee is required to work other normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends and/or holidays.
- The employee is required to maintain current certification to perform various types of welding work. Welding proficiency is verified by destructive and non-destructive testing of welds.
