Licensed Journeyman Electrician

Brief Description:
The Journeyman Electrician reports directly to the Electrical Foreman and is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems per work order, sketches, and drawings. A successful candidate is licensed in the State of North Dakota or has received reciprocity. The incumbent is responsible for converting production drawings to tasks, ensuring necessary materials are available to complete task, and working with Apprentice crews to complete tasks.

Essential Job Functions:

• Ensure compliance with local, city, state, and national electrical codes
• Read blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams
• Gathers appropriate material for daily tasks
• Installs and repairs faulty equipment, wiring or control devices
• Mounts panel boards, transformers, switch gears, transfer switches, and other various types of equipment
• Performs preventative maintenance on variable frequency drives, motors, pumps, generators, etc.
• Provides power and controls to motors, HVAC, and other equipment
• Troubleshoots and repairs all systems

Required Minimum Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or GED
• Valid North Dakota Electrical license, or must have reciprocity in North Dakota (must submit with application)
• Must be able to drive a company vehicle.
• Current OSHA 10 and Hydrogen Sulfide (H2S) certificates or be able to obtain upon hire

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

• Comprehensive knowledge of electrical systems, equipment, operational and mechanical systems including installation, test, maintenance, and repair.
• Knowledge and experience use of power tools, testing equipment, test lamps, measuring devices, power construction equipment.
• Knowledge of proper electrical equipment use conducive to conditions and assignments including adherence to Hazardous Materials and Safety Regulations
• Understands how the electrical system operates under normal and emergency conditions
• Skills in repairing/fixing electrical equipment, wiring, hand or power tools and other fixtures. 
• Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and diagrams
• Ability to recognize and respond to dangerous situations or emergencies such as high voltage systems, electrical fires, loose hot wires, broken power lines etc.
• Ability to diagnose system malfunctions, locate cause of breakdown and correct the problem or recommend solution
• Ability to set and balance priorities to complete projects on time
• Ability to make decisions and recommend appropriate course of action in difficult situations
• Ability to communicate effectively as a supervisor both verbal and written
• Ability to handle stress and possess positive trait even in difficult or challenging situations
• Ability to attend training sessions, seminars and appropriate educational classes required by department

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud and may require use of ear plugs on occasion. Work condition is outside environment (job site/field site) that may have inclement weather conditions. The employee is exposed to moving mechanical parts, vehicles, and equipment.
