1) Job Experience
a. Minimum Five to seven years of welding experience.
b. High school education or technical trade school preferred.
c. Associate degree or advanced welding trade school certificate.
d. Valid welding certificates, American Weld Society (AWS D1.1 and D1.2).
e. Valid welding certificates, American Weld Society (AWS D1.3 and D1.6).
f. Valid welding certificate, MIL-STD-1595
2) Job Expectations
a. Follow all PDI’s health and safety policies.
b. Wear specific safety equipment that complies with the welding task being performed.
c. Fill out required daily time sheets and work orders.
d. Read and interpret blueprints/drawings to determine the specified drawing requirements. Needs to interpret weld symbols with the aid of a weld symbol chart. Requires no Supervisor to help interpret drawings.
e. Inspects own work and verify work meets drawing dimensions and specifications.
f. Performs the process of Gas Metal Arc Welding (MIG) in both steel and aluminum.
g. Performs the process of Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) in both aluminum and stainless.
h. Able to layout, position and align components together by tack welding to secure in position without the aid of a Supervisor.
i. The goal is to maintain daily work order labor efficiency of 85%.
j. Has knowledge of using inspection tools, power tools, and hand tools for producing the required welds.
k. Create more complex jigs and fixtures without the aid of the Supervisor to aid in the welding process.
l. Keep work area clean and organized.
m. Weld components in flat, vertical, up/down, and overhead position.
n. Knowledgeable of types of shielding gases.
o. Ability to adjust amperage/voltage and wire speed (IPM).
p. Ability to trouble shoot welding machine failures.
q. Knowledge of preheating torches.
r. Perform daily, weekly, and/or monthly preventative maintenance checks and safety checks as required by the supervisor.
s. Be respectful to co-workers, supervisors, and management. Help co-workers when asked for guidance on specific jobs, processes, drawing interpretation, company policies, and safety requirements.
t. Aid in the creation of manufacturing processes for jobs within the department.
u. Ensure department is clean (no trip hazards on the floor, trash picked off the floor, water/oil spills are picked up) and all tools, air lines and extension cords are put away at the end of the shift.
v. All aerosol cans (paint, WD-40) are returned to the flammable cabinets. Verify all containers are properly marked the chemical and hazardous safety codes.
w. Perform additional tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
